Family Day
Just 2 occasions in 1 day that made this day very different from the rest.
1. My cousin is getting married!!
This cousin of mine is just 1 year older than me. She's had the pleasure of bullying with me when I was still a cry-baby at the tender age of 7. Of course, the pleasure ended when she had to tilt her head up to look at me.
My cousin and her family went around sending invitations today. When I saw her, all I could do was to keep shaking her hand. I don't know what to say, except the customary congratulations. I'm reaching the stage in life where the people around me are starting to settle down. And my mom naturally didn't let by the chance of asking me "When is your turn?".
I don't even have a girlfriend yet. Seesh. Well, maybe 1 day if I could.....argh, I'm dreaming again.
2. Dinner with my uncle and aunt.
These are different relatives from the above. They live in Chestnut Drive, which is rather close to me, and our families have dinner together every once in a while. My abovementioned cousin lives in Petir Road, which is even closer, but our families don't eat together except during Chinese New Year. I do hang out with my cousin sometimes (always to go KTV, heh heh) and that's about it. Dinner was at a restaurant in Geylang Bahru that specialises in fish head delicacies. My dad absolutely loves fish head (curry). I absolutely can't understand why.
We ordered other dishes among fish head curry, 1 of which is spare ribs. The spare ribs were very nicely done, the meat very succulent and sweet. However, the rib bones reminded me of my FYP. Biting the flesh off the ribs somehow resembled de-fleshing the pig spines in my lab, with my teeth instead of a scapel this time. And the exposed trabecular bone on the cut ribs brought back wonderful memories of the CT images Jeremy and Kuan Ming always play with on the workstations. Everyone tried to ply me with more ribs, but I couldn't bring myself to eat them anymore, no matter how tasty they were. Another side effect of doing too much FYP.
