Retail therapy
A form of therapy, that works only on some, mostly females.
Some enjoy the process of hunting (for better deals), looking through the available choices, and ultimately, owning it. Most of us just want to own it, without having to go through the first two procedures.
I don't know if the latter can also be considered retail therapy, but it does work - to get something that you've been wanting. For me, that would be getting a durable tripod (one that doesn't break when I bring it for travelling), having my own diving gear, so that I don't have to worry about whether the rented equipment is faulty or not, etc...
The biggest side effect of this is that your savings will become depleted. Like mine. And then, the therapy will lose its intended effect.
