Inline skating
Inline skates are gradually being dug out more and more often after lying hidden in Singapore's storeroom of unwanted junk for several years. More and more of my friends and colleagues are (or have expressed the interest to learn) skating on most weekends.
Skating is a good way to spend a weekend together. The only problem, with me, is that I can't skate due to an old knee injury. It's a permanent injury that dashed my hopes of playing soccer, basketball and other forms of exercises that are rather strenuous on the knees for life. That is unless I go for an operation to do something about my partially torn ligament.
As much as I love sports, however, I'm not going for that operation because I don't belong to some national team, and I'm also not feeling rich presently - I can live with the limited activities I'm still able to carry out such as cycling and swimming.
I've got to admit though, it feels horrible when a whole group of people wants to go skating and I'm not able to join in the fun. You can sugges that I go cycling while others skate, but I feel that the 2 just don't go together. This is especially when there are beginners going along to learn, and they are unable to move about (let alone move at a fast pace) and I'm sticking around more for safety reasons than anything else.
I really hate that feeling. I thought it has disappeared for good when my friends stopped asking me if I wanted to join in their soccer sessions (and still it took 1 whole year to numb my senses whenever I see someone playing soccer). The feeling of wanting to enjoy a sport but not able to, and having to constantly reject and explain to people when they invite me along. It had to return to me now.
Suddenly not so inclined to go to East Coast Park any more...
