Food for thought.....or thinking of food?

Nothing profound. Nothing philisophical. Just food. Lots and lots of food.

Holidays

Definition: Holidays are days on which a student does not have any lessons nor exams (having to do FYP is a separate issue - one can choose to do work on a holiday).

Times have changed from the primary and secondary level education whereby holidays are fixed terms shown on the academic calendar. In tertiary level education, there are days during the school term when some do not have lessons at all. Those are also considered holidays.

In other words, holidays are no longer fixed, and their duration and frequency depends on the modules chosen.

In NUS however, holidays can be declared as and when the appropriate authority wishes (for example, Engine Day). Today, a new holiday was declared. But who on earth would need a holiday on 31st December?!

NUS holidays are only meant for their staff. This information is only disseminated to students to let them know when not to look for the staff.....

Tried to look for literature for my FYP for the upteenth time this sem, and failed miserably for the upteenth time again. How can I possibly find something in half a year, that someone couldn't find in 1 and a half years (that makes 3 TIMES as long) ?

I decided to change my area of search from the conventional databases (Compendex, INSPEC, Science Direct, Web of Science) to search engines like (Christmas is coming!).

Guess what I found? Recipes for pig spine soup , and even a blog entry talking about pig spine soup!!!

Can I claim frustration? Someone please advise me.....

Seems like I'm not the only one who took leave today.

Whoever saw me with only a girl seriously needs an eye check up. I was practically surrounded by girls.

What was the subject that you were searching?

My project is on biomechanics of spine, and I'm trying to look for papers written by researchers who have done compressions tests on a singe vertebral body (rear processes sawn off). I need to look at their compression test protocols as well as their results as a means of literature review. The spine specimen I'm using currently is a pig spine, so researchers who use pig spines as well would be more relevant to me.

Do you happen to know where I can find such papers? If you do, please let me know. I'd be very grateful. Thank you.
