Food for thought.....or thinking of food?

Nothing profound. Nothing philisophical. Just food. Lots and lots of food.

Part time Malaysian

Yesterday was the 2nd time I crossed the Straits of Johore during the holidays. Only that time, my friends went over to JB to celebrate Cheryl's birthday. Finally, after 2 consecutive years of celebrating her birthday at Sentosa, we decided to make some radical changes - from south to north.

We took 170 from Kranji MRT at 11.30 am yesterday. The traffic to JB was very light, but the queue at the Malaysian customs checkpoint was really a bottleneck. Everything was quite fast until we reached their checkpoint. We had to wait or about 45 minutes before it was our turns to get our passports stamped. Worse of all, the customs officer tried to chat all of us up. Delays and more delays.

At JB, we had dim sum lunch at City Square, walked around the building (but didn't buy anything because most of the things there can be found in Singapore and cost about the same) and watched the movie, Ocean's Twelve. The movies there cost RM10 at most, and the interior of the cinema has a higher standard of comfort than all that the cinemas in Singapore has to offer. There's so much leg space even I could slide forward in my seat and lean my head on the back rest. I shall go City Square to watch movies from now on

Sidetrack: Movie review

Ocean's Twelve is definitely nowhere as good as it's prequel, no doubt it has equally funky moves. The show assumes that've you've watched Ocean's Eleven and knows its story by heart, hence it lacks the character build-up (which is 1 of the good things about Ocean's Eleven). The cinematography is more akin to the European style than before, in the sense that the camera seems more ShAkY (according to Christopher, ShAkY filming is prevalent in European movies). I almost had a headache watching it.

The action in Ocean's Twelve is much less as compared to Ocean's Eleven. In other words, more boring. I only had 2 hours of sleep the previous night and was very tempted to fall asleep there and then.

Another thing: Brad Pitt doesn't look good in super short hair.

Post dinner activity was dinner at Sri Tebrau Taman's hawker (it's just 1 long row of stalls under the same roof, which, according to Loo, is owned by 1 person.) The prices of most things in JB is about the same as that in Singapore. This hawker is no exception either. There were 6 of us altogether and we spent RM 83 on dinner with about 6 dishes. The only pull factor to eating in JB is that we get to eat things not found in Singapore, like the butter-fried crayfish.

M1's new service

M1 just started the pay-as-you-roam service, probably to compete with Singtel. The service started today, after I came back from my 2 Malaysian trips. How absolutely brilliant

Epidemic

The people in my lab are suffering from sore throat one by one, starting with Erin. She must be the source of contamination. She must be eliminated!!

Just kidding. No one touches the snacks I bought back rom KL anymore, except Zhang Jing. Of the ME people in my lab, I'm the sole survivor. I shall not fall!!
